Qwik Shot®
APT Qwik Shot® Enhancer Technology
Qwik Shot® is a process enhancer additive that is added to the resin at the barrel, providing significant process improvements.
Qwik Shot® technology acts as a polymer flow enhancer.
Qwik Shot® serves as an interface between the equipment process and the polymer, functioning as an “internal” heat sink, resulting in a quicker plasticization of the resin at a lower temperature.
Qwik Shot® reduces internal resin shear forces during barrel transfer and injection, producing quicker injection rates.
Beta testing at customer sites has demonstrated the following process improvements:
- More uniform and homogeneous melt rheology
- Wider Process Operating Window
- Shorter cycle times (Δ 25% - 35%+)
- Lower Barrel Temperatures (Δ 10% -15%)
- Higher Injection Rates
- Improved Screw Recovery Time
- Improved Part Release from Mold
Qwik Shot® provides significant energy savings through lowered barrel temperatures and reduced operating cycle times. APT has just started to quantify this feature, and already we have recorded power savings in the order of 20% in kWatt hours/cycle, after the Enhancer has been introduced. Power savings of 25%+ are easily achievable.
Qwik Shot® is compatible with a wide range of commodity and engineering resins. Specific blending of the additive may be required for specific resin families. For more information, click on resin compatibility.
